Long Term Project​

This year Greensquad has been working on energy conservation in our school. We made an energy audit and decided to weather strip our windows. We decided to do that because one of the main reasons that we lose energy is because heat is escaping through the windows. Another way that we are saving energy is by making sure once we leave the building all the lights,computers,projectors, etc. are all turned off.These are a few of the ways we are saving energy and money in our school.

 

Symposium

The symposium was cancelled so this year we will be presenting to the Board of Education.

Wheelabrator Plant Trip 2014

The PCM Greensquad went on a trip to Wheelabrator Plant in Bridgeport. We watched a quick video on how the plant works and went on a tour of the plant afterwards. Each day the plant burns 2,250 tons of garbage. There are 3 boilers in the plant and each boiler burns 750 tons of waste each day. The combustion air from the boiler turns a turbine which creates energy for more than 80,000 homes in the City of Bridgeport. Once all the waste is burned,what is left is ash and sometimes iron and steel.The ash goes to Putnam, Ct and the iron and steel is removed from the ash and recycled. There have been 6 people working there since 1988. There is a total of 68 employees.
